megillah The feast of Purim (Hebrew: פורים, Purim luck =) is a Jewish holiday which is celebrated annually on 14 Jewish month Adar (15 Adar in walled cities) to commemorate the miracle related in the Book of Esther in which Jews were saved from being destroyed under the rule of King Persian Asuero, identified by some historians as Jerjes I around 450 BC

While Purim is considered one of the most joyous days of the Hebrew calendar, Jews are obliged to fast and pray on the eve, in memory of the Persian Jews who fasted and prayed to God to save them from imminent conflict would lead to their annihilation and extermination of Haman and his followers in the army of the Persian Empire. On Purim we read the Megillah (Hebrew מגילת אסתר, Meguilat Ester, roll-book of Esther). This reading is done at high speed, and those who must listen quietly with flasks and other items at the time of deciding the name of Haman, so that the name is deleted. This achieves involving children.

After fasting, it is a great feast in which they are accustomed to drinking wine and reciting songs, among them often recited the prayer known as Shoshanat Ya'akov, which has been recorded by many singers of Jewish Israel and the Diaspora. It is also obliged to send gifts to friends (in Hebrew: מנות משלוח, Mislóaj manot) and giving charity to the poor (in Hebrew: לאביונים מתנות, Matanot La'evionîm) and were also used to dress up young children.

To prepare special sweets Purim, called "Ears of Aman". Men are allowed to take wine to the level of "confusing the names of Aman and Mordechai", or get drunk.
